BuNo 97142

Current Civil Registration Number N/A

BuNo 97142 rolled off the assembly line in August of 1945 just days after WWII drew to a close.  It served with various squadrons; most notably with VF-44 where it fought alongside BuNo.97359 in the skies over Korea.  After it was retired in October 1956, it likewise became one of the many F4U-4 Corsairs purchased by Bob Bean in 1959 and placed in outdoor storage to await an uncertain future.

In 1977 the now largely derelict BuNo 97142 was acquired by the US Marine Corps Museum and relocated to Mojave, CA where it was cosmetically restored for static display.  Two years later the completed aircraft was loaded aboard a truck and delivered to its final destination at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, AZ where it remains today as a permanent indoor exhibit.
