BuNo 92050

Current Civil Registration Number N67HP

Goodyear FG-1D BuNo 92050 has been a Colorado resident most of its life.  After military acceptance on May 12th 1945, and a hopscotch career with the Navy, the plane was struck from the Navy's inventory on May 31st, 1954.  BuNo 92050 was purchased by James Morton who then passed it on to Bob Mitchem of Broomfield, CO.  The Corsair regularly raced Reno in the late 60's until a blown engine during the races in 1967.  BuNo 92050 returned to the circle pylons of Reno in 1970 with clipped wings and a Wright R-3350 engine.  When it's racing career ended, the Corsair changed hands once more when it was purchased by James Axtell in 1977 who stored it in a T-hangar at Jefferson County airport. For the last decade, BuNo 92050 has been on display at the Wings over the Rockies museum at Lowry AFB in Denver, CO.
